The Royal Way

Krakow Main Market If you are eager to get to know the heart of Krakow better, you are highly welcome on “The Royal Way” trip. In the old times the Royal Way was followed by monarchs, deputies and other eminent guests, today the traditional route is filled with tourists and enthusiasts of old Cracow.
Our guide will lead you through Matejko Square to Florianska Gate and Barbican, the part of a system of walls and moats, which rest from The Middle Ages. After short a walk you reach the Main Market, being the largest medieval town square in Europe, measuring 200m by 200m. In the centre you can see The Cloth Hall, popular medieval rag trade, which now is still a trading center but it houses The Gallery of 19th Century Polish Painting as well. There are many interesting objects in the Main Market, which our guide will tell you about. One of them, definitely worth to mention is St. Mary Church famous for the bugle call – a musical symbol of the city. If possible - go inside and you will see marvelous paintings, tombs, sculptures and terrific stained-glass windows.
Wawel
Later our guide will take you along medieval streets to The Wawel Hill- one of the most popular attractions of Poland. It was a set of the kings for over 500 year until the capital was moved to Warsaw in 16th century. On Wawel Hill you will visit the Cathedral with many treasures inside. It was here where most of coronations and funerals of Polish monarchs took place. And the last stop is The Wawel Royal Castle – spiritual home of the Polish Nation. The Castle walls contain remains of pre-Romanesque, Romanesque and Gothic buildings, but its present-day style is that of the Renaissance. The Castle is guarded by defense fortifications spiked with turrets. In 1978 UNESCO placed the Wawel Castle on its List of the World's Cultural and Natural Heritage. Nowadays there is a museum, offering trips through “Royal Chambers”, “Royal Private Apartments”, “Crown Treasury and Armoury”, “Oriental Art Exhibition” and “Lost Wawel”.
